A phrase search looks for matches to your words, as a phrase, as you have typed them. (See Note at bottom about very common words.)
Examples:
- masterpiece theatre - Any Field (Find any record with Masterpiece Theatre in any field.)
- lewis and clark expedition - Any Field
- complete idiot's guide to - Title
- best places - Title
- heirloom varieties - Subject
- white christmas - Title (Includes song title within any album.)
- quickstart guide - Series
Select a field in the Search by box:
To tell computer to search across all the fields in
the catalog records, select Any Field. To search just a single field such
as Author or Title, select that field.
Click Go. The search results show all the titles that matched your
search. Click any title to see the full record.
Tip: You can limit your search to certain branches, material
types, other options or additional sorting order. Click Open Search Options.
Note: To conserve computer resources, small common words (known as 'stop words') are recognized only as placemarkers in the Phrase mode. Any word in it's relative position will be recognized and accepted as a 'match'. "lewis and clark expedition" could possibly return 'Lewis Z. Clark expedition', if such a phrase existed in the database. If you need more precise matching, please use the "Authority" (or "Exact") search mode.
